[ It doesn't even cross his mind to refuse. He can't, he wouldn't, not when Rey is like this. And if Five is honest with himself, he's also feeling a bit...melancholic. He hadn't realized how much he missed being close to her until it had happened again.

As much as he likes to act independently, as much as he reminds himself that he is old enough to be on his own -and god, is he old- , humans are social creatures. No matter how often Five doubts his own humanity, there are moments in which he is painfully reminded of it. He leans back a little so he can once again cup Rey's cheek with a hand. ]

You only had to ask. [ He's usually not one for affectionate gestures but his siblings had always been the exceptions. His sisters are more than any other of them. Leaning in, Five closes his eyes and rests his forehead against Rey's. ]

It will be fine. I know life has been a mess for us since the beginning but we will change that from now on, one day at time. One day at time, okay?

[Rey knows things will be some measure of "fine." What she wants are moments with her brother--moments that they couldn't have. Moments where the world felt right again, and they were together. She wasn't overtly attached to Five, but he was the person she turned to the most. Out of all her siblings, Five was the one she reached for. When he disappeared...a piece of her went missing too.

Her cheeks were wet from crying, but Rey didn't care. Her eyes were closed and her forehead was pressed against Five's. All the while holding onto him. As much as he reassured her he wasn't going anywhere, she was still afraid of letting go and watching him vanish into thin air.]

Okay...

[She manages to say after several moments. A deep breath to steady her emotions and to test her mental walls. They were up, she couldn't sense Five's emotions anymore, but there were still remnants of them in her mind.

Without thinking, she pressed a light kiss to his temple and gently pulled him to her. As strong as he was, mentally, and physically...she wanted to show she would catch him. She would be there for him...and be his big spoon.]

...That includes you too. [I'm here for you too, Five.]

[ They can work on these as well. It might be slow and they might fuck things up a bit in the process, because they both have a lot of baggage in their past, but they're family. They will figure things out eventually.

Five also takes a deep breath and exhales it slowly through his mouth when he realizes that his heartbeat is a little bit faster than normal. He chalks it up to the unusual closeness. When this happened in the past, it usually meant some sort of pain or unpleasant experience was about to happen. People only got close to him to fight him off or to kill him. But with Rey, it only feels right, warm. He feels his cheekbones heat up when a kiss is placed on his temple and he blinks in surprise a couple of times, green eyes startled and big. ]

Ah...I won't forget it. [ Promise. He's still a little flustered so he fidgets with his hands and looks for the handkerchief he keeps in his jacket pocket, offering it to Rey to dry her tear-streaked cheekbones. It has a little black umbrella embroidered in the corner, as it was part of their official uniform. ] There, you can keep it.
