Let's try this, a Commission AU
Thus AJ dared to call in a specialist. Though she wasn't a specialist that he called upon lightly. Especially as he knew her to be a bit of a wild card, but what choice did he have when Five and his family were just so crafty at evading some of the best of his people? There was a reason why Five was considered one of their best and he truly hated that the man had to go break his contract, his future could have bright.
Mina on the other was not like the Swedes, nor anything like Hazel and Cha Cha and even the Handler wasn't up to her level. Which was why AJ never spoke to anyone about his specialist. Thus Mina found herself in the 1960s tracking a family of misfits that were sort of endearing in their own ways. They kind of reminded her of her own wayward family, who were currently in a different timeline living their lives unaware and unharmed. Just the way she preferred it. After tracking the various members, she had signaled out Five as the actual leader of their family, thus she decided to approach him first. From the looks of it, he already wanted out of the timeline, so maybe she could help him without things getting messy. Maybe.
Quietly she stood out in the alley watching the building she knew he and his brothers were using as a base, biding her time. Though unexpectedly Five suddenly appeared in said alley as if he had been thrown there. Leaning against the wall, Mina crossed her arms and smirked at him.]
Now this is certainly a turn of good fortune...
[She spoke with a strong British accent as she gave him a sly smile. ]
At least for me.
[ She added after a beat. ]
Perfect~
That didn't mean he wasn't getting fed up with the number of agents and strike teams the Commission kept sending after his family and himself. Will these people never learn? If they only left the Hargreeves alone, a lot of unnecessary bloodshed and manslaughter would be avoided. They had enough trouble on their own, trying to stop yet another Apocalypse from happening and finding their Father. They had enough troubles that Five had been positively distracted. Otherwise, he might have noticed the Swedes sooner and, now, the new addition to the assassins tailing them.
He is already annoyed by Luther throwing him off the stairs and hearing an unexpected voice doesn't improve Five's mood. His attention turns to her and he tilts his head like a hawk considering if what's in front of him is a new threat or prey. She didn't seem surprised by a kid appearing out of mid-air so the former option is more plausible. ]
It might not last. Who are you?
<3
She considers his question for a moment, wondering if he would recognize her name, since her life was fictionalized quite some time ago.]
Wilhelmina Murray, but you can call me, Mina.
[ She slightly pushes herself away from the wall, to stand straighter as she looks him over further. ]
There's been a lot of senseless violence as of late, so I thought I might try speaking to you. I know you want to find a way to stop the Nuclear Doomsday, but you must see by now you and your family are the cause for it.
♥
Five will give it to her, at least Mina is no the sort to 'shoot first, ask questions never' and she actually engages in a conversation. Too bad Five doesn't really care for it. It's too much like the Handler's usual behavior for his liking. The name, however, gets a small scoff out of him and it earns her an incredulous look. At least he seems less murderous for a second. ]
Are you sure you wouldn't prefer 'Mrs. Harker'? [ Of course, he's read the book. It wasn't one father recommended, in lieu of being fiction but earning Reginald's disapproval never stopped Five from doing what he wanted. The problem here is that he's never heard of her before and he should have. She doesn't look new to this sort of line of work.
If he wanted confirmation that she was a threat, then she got it. Five shrugs a little at the ' senseless violence' bit as if to say 'my bad', and puts his hands on his pockets. A show casualness, one practiced for years, that it actually meant he's readying himself for a fight. When he finally spoke again, his voice had a more polite edge but it could still cut. ]
I'm aware we do not belong in this time, which is why we're trying to leave. Perhaps if people shot at us less, we would accomplish that more quickly.
[ Look, he's not saying they're not at fault for Doomsday but....he doesn't want them to be. ]

Jonathan and I aren't married anymore. We parted ways upon our deaths. [ She says simply, something of a sad smile does almost touch her face. But she lightly waves her hand to clear away that subject. It has no bearing here. ]
But that is beside the point, you don't have a lot of options available to you. So perhaps you might want to hear me out before you attempt to attack me.
[It's a challenge for certain. Despite her nature, she isn't so bloodthirsty that she can't see that he merely wishes to protect his family. She can appreciate that. ]

Til death do us part, they say.
[ She sounds so convinced when she says she's no longer married to Jonathan that Five can't help but tilt his head again. This time the gesture has a 'I'm questioning your sanity' air to it. ]
I never had a lot of options in life and I managed just fine. But I'm...willing to hear you out. [ He hates wasting time and useless chit cat that only delays the inevitable but if they can solve things without fighting, he will it a try. ] You must want something too. What it is?

Oh I'm aware. A shame really to get stranded in a post apocalyptical wasteland at such a young age. You and I aren't so different when it comes to doing whatever it takes to survive...[ She trails off, before walking to the side a bit away from him. She isn't one to get into anyone's personal space, unlike the Handler. It's not Mina's style. She has way more class than that. She glances over her shoulder to fix her blue eyes back on him. ] ...to do whatever it takes to protect loved ones.
[ She says the word pointedly so he gets that she knows what drives him and unlike others in the Commission, she understands. ] Look I am not a full time employee with the Commission, I'm what the higher ups like to call a specialist. They've tasked me with removing you and your family from this timeline by any means necessary.
[ She fully turns to face him completely now. ]
However I find your little band of misfits to be a bit too endearing to simply kill you all. So I can offer you all the chance to leave this time period, but you wouldn't end up back in 2019. It would be 2010, the year I currently live in when I'm not doing special assignments. The only other catch is that you keep your little sister, the bomb in check. I would be quite angry if you lot brought the apocalypse to my family's door instead.

Do you want to go somewhere less sunny? [ If she really is a vampire, it's a surprise that she's not already burned to a crisp. The suggestion is Five's way to show that he's willing to listen to her further and that he's at least considering her comfort in a small way.
The problem is that she knows too much of him and he knows nothing of her. If the sort of disparity that makes the short hairs at the back of Five's neck stand up and his annoyance rise. It shows that she's smart, though, and he can appreciate it, troublesome as it will be for his family and him.
He wonders briefly if she got mixed with the commission in the same way that he did as her words seem to imply. The air of wariness and threat doesn't disappear from Five but it goes down a notch. ]
And I shall believe all this to be true? That you're doing it out of the goodness of your heart because you find my family endearing? You must not have spied on us long enough, endearing isn't how most people would describe us.[ He huffs a little at that but a small smile plays on his lips. It doesn't reach his lips but it's there. ] So what's the catch? I'm not sure anybody this generous exists. Do you want out too?
no subject
That's unnecessary, I'm old enough that sunlight doesn't really bother me anymore. Most things that are believed about vampire weaknesses aren't exactly accurate and well the Count wasn't going to correct his enemies' misconceptions and preconceived notions of him and our kind.
[ She tells him with a shrug. He wasn't wrong in his assumption that she knew a lot about him as she was given his file to study before taking the assignment and well she had been using the various eyes around them to keep track of their movements in this timeline. Pest, vermin, birds, cats, dogs and weak willed humans all served as windows into observing Five and his siblings. ]
It's true, you don't know me outside what you read in a book that was decidedly not the whole picture, let alone the full truth. So you have no reason to trust me, but if I wanted to harm your family I could have already done that. Klaus and Allison were alone at her house last night and he was so very drunk, while she was focused on finding her husband. Neither would have saw me coming, if I had wanted to slaughter them.
[ She speaks frankly so that he knows just how much surveillance she has put in and just how thorough she is with her job. There is a reason she is considered a specialist after all. ]
If I'm honest, there isn't much you could offer me outside of the obvious that is. [ However she tilts her head as she looks at Five and gives him a slight frown of distaste as nope, she isn't going there. ] And well your current body is too young and too injured to make that sort of arrangement in any case. So I am offering to help you out of the kindness of my own heart and well it is to my own benefit that a nuclear war does not happen in this timeline. That would ruin my time period too.
no subject
If you are sure. I can understand using deception in your favor, it's only logical.
[ He does it a lot himself now that he had a kid's body. It's annoying most of the time but it makes people underestimate him a lot and that works to Five's advantage. It seems like a positive thing now as well, after Nina's implications that other vampires don't have an issue with killing children, but knowing the fact it leaves him rather disgusted too. He doesn't comment on it but Five scrunches up his nose, frowning lightly. A new worry for another time. Right now it's troublesome enough to discover she had been trailing his family so close and he never once noticed before. None of them did. ]
Eh, when isn't Klaus drunk? It would have been harder for you to find him sober. [ Not quite true, because as far as he knows his little brother had tried to stay sober a few years but the joke helps to keep his casual demeanor on display. It gives Five a few extra seconds to think.
He gets the message, if she wanted them dead they would already be in pieces. Now, the reasonable course of action would be to eliminate the immediate threat (a vampire) but he doesn't have enough data to determine how successful he could be at that (would wood stakes work?). Mina could get pissed off if he did as much as attempt to kill her and failed, and she could take it out on the rest of his family. The other option is still shady but no one dies in that scenario. ]
I appreciate the honesty. [ He does, even if he doesn't like what he's hearing, or fully believes the whole truth. There's just too many lies in his life already. I never really understood the Commission's insistence on an apocalypse of some sort happening. ] Let's say I put my trust in you, that I follow your advice. That will make you an enemy of the time Commission as well.
no subject
Well the things that go bump in the night can be just as horrifying in the light of day.
[ That's about as honest as she will be about her abilities and how they work. She's not about to put all her cards on the table, especially when she has no plans of turning him. As it stands, he's a human she can sympathize with on a couple of levels and she's leaving it at that. ]
Oh I don't know if I believe that. I did bear witness to his shopping spree, there was even a disgruntled spirit looking after him at the time. Though he seems to come and go. [ Her expression slightly softens at that. ] I gather him to be the brother, you and your siblings lost. But that's merely my speculation.
[At the idea of the Commission trying to handle her, she can't help but snicker a little as there are things even they don't know about her. ] Among the Commission, I'm a closely guarded secret, not even your old friend the Handler knows about me. [ She pauses as she thinks something over. ] That does remind me that I might pay her a visit, since she has been nosying around this assignment behind the board's back. Her little daughter has not gone unrecognized by me. The only operatives that should be on this case is the Swedes and myself.
no subject
Duly noted. [ She won't be underestimated and he will have to up his game from now on. Fighting time-traveling agents is one thing, fighting time-traveling agents who are virtually immortal and can suck your dry is another level of problematic.
Who knows what other aces she has under her sleeve. Asking won't work, she already shared more than he expected, so for the time being Five will remain open-minded but careful. ]
Ben is here? [ The mention of his deceased brother gets Five to look troubled again, or the closest thing he can get to it before he frowns. ] That bastard...Klaus, not him. He told us Ben didn't make it to Dallas.
[ The tone of voice of the boy has an underlying feeling of I'm going to kill him but he regains himself from saying so out loud, lest he gives Mina ideas. She didn't share the information to hurt him, Five can tell. ]
I didn't even know about you, that's saying something. And you're lucky you don't have to go near that woman. [ He bristles at the idea of being called a friend of the Handler but managed to keep his annoyance in check at the last moment. This is friendly banter, nothing more. Besides, the extra information he's getting now gets his attention quickly. ]
Her daughter...? [ It doesn't take Five long to make the connection with Lila. Give laughs, making a face that is a mix of 'for fuck's sake' and 'but of -fucking- course'. ] I knew she was hiding something but that she was related to the devil herself. God my brother is an idiot, maybe we can leave Diego here, it would serve him right.
no subject
Perhaps? I couldn't really risk probing otherwise I would have given my presence away to him. I can tell you, he was Asian, dark hair, wore all black and seemed to be around the same age as your other siblings.
[ She gave a quick description as that was the only confirmation she could offer at present. She nodded in understanding over his apparent irritation as it sounded as though Klaus had been rather naughty in not telling his siblings that their brother was still around. Even she had to admit that was rather selfish of the lad. However it was unimportant at the moment, thus she chose to leave it alone.
Despite his ability to keep his emotions in check, she noted the shifts in his body language in regards to the Handler and her daughter, Lila as well. Lightly she chuckles at that dawning realization on his face as well as the insult toward his overly idealistic brother.]
Go easy on the lad, it isn't as if he has a reference for how Commission operatives can be undercover. Hazel and Cha Cha were not exactly the King and Queen of subtlety and well they certainly didn't have a pretty face like young Lila.
[ Suddenly a squawk from above catches Mina's attention, her eyes turning red for a moment as a frown finds her face. ]
It seems we have company.
[ She speaks in a low voice as her eyes gesture upward toward the roof of the adjacent building. Without a warning a flock of birds swoop down upon the spot she looks toward and a shout of "Shit!" can be heard.]
Language, darling. It's unbecoming of a lady to speak in such a manner!
[ She calls out as a very disgruntled Lila glares down from her perch at both Mina and Five. ]
no subject
Yes, that's...that's Ben for sure. [ He fails a little at keeping the hurt our of his features but it can't be helped. Focusing on his annoyance towards Diego's choice of partner it's easier. ]
He still should know better and think with his brain instead of what's between his legs for a change. She looked like trouble for the start. [ The sound makes him look up with a glare, only to see the cause of his frustration staring back at them. ] Speaking of the devil...Nice trick with the birds, give me a second, ma'am.
[ Is the last thing Five says before disappearing in a blue flash, blinking himself up into the roof next to Lila. She gives him a smile devoid of any real humor, tries to kick him in the head, and starts running away after Five avoids the blow. With an unnamed grin of his own Five starts chasing her. ]

I doubt he didn't see the red flags, but some times it is hard to see what is right in front of you. [ She's watched Diego with his hero complex and his obsession with saving JFK. She feels sorry for the guy to be honest as he probably thought he was finally connecting with someone rather than getting used.
However the conversation is cut short as the birds that had been feeding Mina information, spot Lila on the roof. However before Mina can stop Five, he takes off to chase the brat. Mina sighs as she calls upon the birds to keep track of the chase. It's harder in the daylight but she concentrates and vanishes into a flock of birds herself that immediately join the chase.
Before Lila can jump to the next roof, a large flock of birds cut her off and suddenly Mina appears directly in front of her.]
Sorry darling, but I can't let you report back to your Mummy.
[ Lila frowns looking between Five and Mina as if she is sizing up who she should attack. She decides to take a swing at Mina, who dodges the graceless punch without effort and catches Lila's fist in the palm of her hand. Suddenly Lila twitches, her eyes widening as she realizes her mistake far too late.]
'What the fuck are you?'
[ Lila grimaces as she falls to her knees, seemingly in pain before suddenly she passes out. ]
Too much for you to handle apparently. You're only human after all.

They will have to keep discussing Diego's bad taste in women later, as Five starts to give chase the object of his brother's affections. With the knowledge that she's the Handler's daughter, a lot of her past reactions make much more sense. He already suspected Lila to be from the commission but not that she was someone potentially important.
Every time he gets closer to the woman, she outruns him, even with his powers. It's not only annoying but troublesome, as if something about Lila isn't quite right. Five doesn't have time to ponder much about it, the flock of birds blocks her escape and Mina with them. It's not long before he's watching Lila crumble to the floor and stop moving. ]
Did you kill her? [ Five doesn't look particularly troubled about the idea. ]
no subject
No, she just bit off a bit more than she could chew when she directed her powers at me.
[ Lightly she shakes her head as she kneels down to check Lila's pulse to be sure that the girl is stable condition. Her fingers then moving to brush over Lila's forehead, she frowns again and lets out a sigh. ]
I realize there is no love lost between you and the Handler, but this girl is just as much of a pawn as you have been to that woman. Except while you know for a fact that Handler plays games, this girl is under the delusion that her dear old mother gives a damn about her.
[ She slightly grimaces as it is so inconvenient that is still the middle of the day. It means she will have to physically move Lila rather us her powers to do so. What a pain, but it can't be help, they can't let her get back to her mother to enlighten her of new developments.]
Do you happen to have a place we can stash her for the moment?
no subject
Her powers... [ Five looks down, narrowing his eyes at Lila, then up at Mina, a silent realization playing on the look in his face. ] You're saying she's like us?
[ 'US' being his family and Five himself and not another vampire like Mina. He doesn't want to offend the other woman, he's only trying to understand. As Mina checks on Lila and talks about her messed up situation, Five briefly rubs the back of his neck. ]
Wonderful. She's not only bad at fights but delusional.
[ The words are annoyed but the tone isn't all that cruel Five knows all too well what is to try and please a parent who doesn't really care about you at all. He can help moving Lila to any location, Mina won't have to do it. Five can just teleport them both out of sight, the other woman has already done enough to help. Leaning in, he grabs Lila's wrist, then straightens and offers his hand to Mina. ]
Luther's old place will have to do, we cant' bring her to Elliot's or my brother will know.
no subject
In all honestly I don't really know. She does have powers like you and your siblings, but her circumstances could be entirely different. I'll have to dig into it. I'm willing to bet, AJ knows. In any case, she's capable of mimicking other's powers and abilities. However since I am vampire that is well over a hundred years old and have powers that are not easily comprehensible to humans minds, it overloaded her.
[ As Mina finished checking Lila over, she stood up and gave Five an amused scoff.]
Ah well, she doesn't have the advantage and prospective age brings, I'd wager that neither of us were that different in our own youths.
[ Mina says with a small smile, completely acknowledging that Five is indeed an adult even if he is still far younger than herself. As she watches him grab ahold of Lila's wrist, she understands what he means to do and is thankful that he's willing to move the girl. She simply nods as she reaches out to grasp his hand.]
It'll be fine. I only need to keep there until sunset, then I can move her someplace more secured. Some place that Mummy won't think to look for her.
[ She adds with a chuckle. Mina's not needlessly cruel but she does on occasion make exceptions.]
