[ 'At the moment'...they never did and never will have safe lives. He might as well have someone to distract him when things turn too miserable. Five might have decided already to keep the dog no matter what his brother says but he knows Luther is making an effort. ]
Ey, look.
[ He sends a picturefor Luther to see the doggie. How can they NOT keep it? ]
no subject
Although it is cute, he'll give him that.]
It really is small.
no subject
But they can have cute pets. Klaus already squee'd over the dog and called himself uncle. ]
Told you. He's very smart too, you should come see him in person.
no subject
[He should probably make an effort to keep the puppy out of any stash Klaus has at their house... proud uncle or not.]
no subject
Before the food I would like to give him a quick bath.
[ God, let's not get the poor puppy high or sick because of that stuff. ]
no subject
Bathing a puppy shouldn't be too hard.
[Not that he's ever had one, but how much of a fight could they really put up?]
no subject
[ The dog is small and will get slippery, try to guess. ]
no subject
Did you tell Mom about the puppy? [How about Pogo? They should probably know there's a puppy running around now, at least.
But right, bath.]
Come on, let's get him to the bathroom and I'll give you a hand.
no subject
I haven't seen any of them but it's not as if we need their permission. [ 'We are grown ass men' Five doesn't say but it's implied in his tone and the way he glares at Luther. The fact that the puppy in his arms twists to lick as his face kind of ruins the attempt at being threatening. ]
Right, ok. [ And up to the bathroom they go. The one with the old bathtub Klaus often uses would be the best to avoid having the puppy running away at the first sign of water. His fur is a bit dirty and matted but and more than anything, Five wants to check for injuries. ]
You can pet him, you know. He would love it.
no subject
If Five wants to be taken seriously, the puppy licking his face isn't the best way. Luther can't help but crack a brief smile.
He follows Five up to the bathroom, pausing when he suggests he pet him. He hesitates for a second before he reaches out to give the puppy a very careful pat to the head. He doesn't want to accidentally get too rough with it -- and it's so much smaller compared to him.]
He's cute. Did you decide on a name yet?
no subject
The puppy makes a soft yipping sound, reaches out to sniff at Luther's hand after the pet and then licks his fingers. ]
Not yet, no. Any suggestions?
no subject
Luther can't help a bit of a smile when the puppy licks him like that, not scared at all apparently. Good. It's going to see a lot of weird stuff, hanging around their family...]
Oh, no. He's your puppy right? I think you should be the one to name him... but there doesn't have to be a rush for it. Come on, you find some soap, I'll get the water running.
no subject
The puppy doesn't seem to care about weird, he's just happy to have someone and likes to play. Maybe the pet will be good for all of them. ]
My dog...[ Five repeats as if it's just dawning on him. ] I never had anything or anyone that was just mine. [ He looks dog at the pet, scratching his ears with a smile. ]
I'll think of a good name. He needs dog shampoo, I will go to a pet store and be back in a minute. [ A moment later he's offering the dog to Luther. Or rather he's dropping the lil pup on his brother's hands and blinking out of the room. ]

He gives a brief smile of his own when Five continues on. Whatever reservations he had about bringing an animal into the house are fading pretty fast if it gets Five to smile like that. A dog has to be better than a mannequin, right?
Although he does startle a bit when he has a puppy in his hands suddenly.. He holds him carefully, bringing him closer to his chest.]
Um-- [Too late. Five's gone. Awkwardly, Luther settles on the floor and nudges at the bathroom door to make sure it's closed all the way. Easier to let the puppy down to play a bit -- and not have to worry about him wiggling out of his hands while he waits. Besides, he seems pretty happy just chasing Luther's fingers around when he wiggles them around.]
Guess it's just you and me for a bit.
no subject
I see that you two are doing well without me. [ He knew that the adorableness of the puppy will win Luther over, it was inevitable. It might even work for Diego, who knows. Five will have to introduce them all to the dog one by one. ]I got the shampoo, puppy food and some toys. And a drying towel.
no subject
When Five comes back, he does try to look a little more serious though. He's entirely not won over by cuteness, no.]
Right. Good. That should do him for a little while.
no subject
Weren't you going to get the water running? [ He admonish slightly, looking up at Luther, but it's a casual question rather than an accusing one. Five is in a rare good mood. ]
no subject
[In other words, he might have gotten distracted by playing with the cute puppy instead, but he moves to turn on the water, making sure it's not to warm or too cold.]
You really like that puppy, don't you?
no subject
That you did. [ You can't fool him, Luther. Not like Five looks too bothered by having wait until the tub fills with water, they only need a few inches or too much water would scare the dog. And since Luther is being helpful, Five decided to be honest for once. ]
I do. It's cute and friendly, never get a lot of that in my life. [ He scratches the dogs head one last time and let it play with his shoelaces as he fishes the towel and dog shampoo out of the paper bag. ]I don't suppose dad let you had pets after I left?
no subject
I guess I quit wondering about what it would be like to have one eventually. [Like so many other things, but he'd rather not focus on it.]
Water's ready. You want to grab him?
no subject
[ Five states nonchalantly, if a little bitter, as he takes off his blazer. He understood that Luther was repeating what he had learned from dad, he lived with the bastard the most, but it was frustrating that the man's shadow was still present even after he was gone. He leans to carefully pick up the puppy, a hand under him to support his chest, and looks up at Luther with a cat-like grin on his face that would look sincere if there wasn't a hint of something predatory behind it. Five just had that kind of smile sometimes, it was a thing.]
Now you don't have to wonder any more. [ He lowers the puppy into the bathroom, water reaching only under his belly and murmurs some reassurances when the dog starts yipping. ] Pass me the shampoo, will you?
no subject
[He murmurs it, almost reluctant. It doesn't feel... right to say, even now as disillusioned as he is. He still wants to grasp at something, anything that meant that his time with their father hadn't been... as meaningless to him as it feels at the moment.]
I suppose so. [He reaches for the shampoo, handing it to Five while he tries to distract the puppy from climbing out.]
no subject
[ In Five's opinion, the sooner Luther face he truth the better but he won't push his brother further. He takes the bottle in a small 'thank you' and uncaps the bottle as the puppy tries to chase Luther's fingers again. Bathing a dog is no something any of them has done before but it can't possibly be that hard right?
Wrong.
The dog quickly gets used to the water, so much that he enjoys moving around the bathtub and it's wagging his tails so fast that is splashing water everywhere. ]
no subject
[And honestly, he doesn't entirely know who he is outside of Dad encouraged them to be. But now's probably not the time to get into it. Not with a cute puppy getting entirely to into his bath.
The splashing gets a surprised huff out of him before he actually just smiles.]
Okay, someone's liking the bath too much now...
no subject
Five, being the one closer to the puppy jumping around inside the tub is getting his hair and shirt soaked. He's never inconvenienced by these kinds of things and much like Luther, an amused smile is in his face.]
Not afraid of water, this one. Brave little thing. [ Five lets him play some more as he puts a handful of soap in his palm. He looks up at Luther, some of his wet fringe sticking to Five's forehead. ]
Could you hold him up while I wash him? Just put your hand under his chest and lift him a little.
