Re: @ paulbunyan
Are you going to name him?
no subject
Yes. Everyone deserves a name.
no subject
Dogs don't need tents. It needs a dog house... outside.
You name it, you really do adopt it. I'm pretty sure that's how that works.
no subject
I'm not leaving the dog outside. He will think I'm abandoning him and he's too small to be on his own.
[ Okay, so, he might be projecting a little. ]
It isn't quite how that worked with all of us and the old bat, isn't it?
no subject
Although that doesn't mean he's not worried about the apparent puppy that's going to be running around and gnawing on everything.]
Fine, but keep an eye on it so it doesn't chew anything important.
[A pause.]
I don't think puppies are exactly like children. But we do have names.
no subject
I'm going to train him and teach him tricks, stop worrying.
[ Do we, really, ALL of us? Five wants to say but decides against it. Luther has often been innocently insensitive since they were kids, not realizing the way his words come out sounding sometimes. Five knows it's not the man's fault, growing under the shadow of their father, and that he only says these kind of things out of concern so he drops the subject about names completely. ]
Do we have any meat at home I can give him?
no subject
But Five seems to go on about the dog, so he follows the subject change easily enough--]
I'm sure we've got something he could eat around here. But we might want to pick up dog food for him soon.
no subject
I would have done that already but I don't have any money from this decade on me. Probably none from this century, actually.
no subject
[He's really biting back on the urge to tell Five they don't really have the safest lives for dogs at the moment...
He's pretty sure it would fall on deaf ears anyway.]
no subject
[ 'At the moment'...they never did and never will have safe lives. He might as well have someone to distract him when things turn too miserable. Five might have decided already to keep the dog no matter what his brother says but he knows Luther is making an effort. ]
Ey, look.
[ He sends a picturefor Luther to see the doggie. How can they NOT keep it? ]
no subject
Although it is cute, he'll give him that.]
It really is small.
no subject
But they can have cute pets. Klaus already squee'd over the dog and called himself uncle. ]
Told you. He's very smart too, you should come see him in person.
no subject
[He should probably make an effort to keep the puppy out of any stash Klaus has at their house... proud uncle or not.]
no subject
Before the food I would like to give him a quick bath.
[ God, let's not get the poor puppy high or sick because of that stuff. ]
no subject
Bathing a puppy shouldn't be too hard.
[Not that he's ever had one, but how much of a fight could they really put up?]
no subject
[ The dog is small and will get slippery, try to guess. ]
no subject
Did you tell Mom about the puppy? [How about Pogo? They should probably know there's a puppy running around now, at least.
But right, bath.]
Come on, let's get him to the bathroom and I'll give you a hand.
no subject
I haven't seen any of them but it's not as if we need their permission. [ 'We are grown ass men' Five doesn't say but it's implied in his tone and the way he glares at Luther. The fact that the puppy in his arms twists to lick as his face kind of ruins the attempt at being threatening. ]
Right, ok. [ And up to the bathroom they go. The one with the old bathtub Klaus often uses would be the best to avoid having the puppy running away at the first sign of water. His fur is a bit dirty and matted but and more than anything, Five wants to check for injuries. ]
You can pet him, you know. He would love it.
no subject
If Five wants to be taken seriously, the puppy licking his face isn't the best way. Luther can't help but crack a brief smile.
He follows Five up to the bathroom, pausing when he suggests he pet him. He hesitates for a second before he reaches out to give the puppy a very careful pat to the head. He doesn't want to accidentally get too rough with it -- and it's so much smaller compared to him.]
He's cute. Did you decide on a name yet?
no subject
The puppy makes a soft yipping sound, reaches out to sniff at Luther's hand after the pet and then licks his fingers. ]
Not yet, no. Any suggestions?
no subject
Luther can't help a bit of a smile when the puppy licks him like that, not scared at all apparently. Good. It's going to see a lot of weird stuff, hanging around their family...]
Oh, no. He's your puppy right? I think you should be the one to name him... but there doesn't have to be a rush for it. Come on, you find some soap, I'll get the water running.
no subject
The puppy doesn't seem to care about weird, he's just happy to have someone and likes to play. Maybe the pet will be good for all of them. ]
My dog...[ Five repeats as if it's just dawning on him. ] I never had anything or anyone that was just mine. [ He looks dog at the pet, scratching his ears with a smile. ]
I'll think of a good name. He needs dog shampoo, I will go to a pet store and be back in a minute. [ A moment later he's offering the dog to Luther. Or rather he's dropping the lil pup on his brother's hands and blinking out of the room. ]
no subject
He gives a brief smile of his own when Five continues on. Whatever reservations he had about bringing an animal into the house are fading pretty fast if it gets Five to smile like that. A dog has to be better than a mannequin, right?
Although he does startle a bit when he has a puppy in his hands suddenly.. He holds him carefully, bringing him closer to his chest.]
Um-- [Too late. Five's gone. Awkwardly, Luther settles on the floor and nudges at the bathroom door to make sure it's closed all the way. Easier to let the puppy down to play a bit -- and not have to worry about him wiggling out of his hands while he waits. Besides, he seems pretty happy just chasing Luther's fingers around when he wiggles them around.]
Guess it's just you and me for a bit.
no subject
I see that you two are doing well without me. [ He knew that the adorableness of the puppy will win Luther over, it was inevitable. It might even work for Diego, who knows. Five will have to introduce them all to the dog one by one. ]I got the shampoo, puppy food and some toys. And a drying towel.
no subject
When Five comes back, he does try to look a little more serious though. He's entirely not won over by cuteness, no.]
Right. Good. That should do him for a little while.
